Sherman Hospital in Elgin, Illinois began operations on July 7, 1888 in a two story house donated by prominent businessman and drug store owner, Henry Sherman. The hospital at that time had only one operating room and four patient beds. Flash forward to 1999 and the hospital had grown to become one of the largest health care facilities in Chicago with a total of 353 beds.
