The Waterproofing Challenge

Unhappy with their original decision and needing a better waterproofing solution, the company reached out to Superior Roofing to find them a trusted manufacturer with a superior system, a 10+ year warranty, and ICC Certification. Superior Roofing turned to Marc Di Zinno and Bill England, Westcoat’s Architectural Representatives for solutions.

Waterproofing Solution for Balconies and Walkways

Marc Di Zinno worked with Superior Roofing, who is a long time Westcoat Applicator (QCA), to install ALX Pro for the apartment home balconies and MACoatTM for the walkways. Since Superior Roofing is a Westcoat QCA, he qualified for the 15-year warranty and was the first to install our new WP-35 Deck Drain.

New Westcoat Product featured at Harbor View Apartments

The WP-35 Deck Drain is a high-quality, 26-gauge, marine grade 316 stainless steel bowl deck drain. It is designed to be used with Westcoat ALX and ALX Pro Systems. The 4” round bronze grate is high-flow, made in the USA, and incredibly easy to install. It does not require a hub and is already prepped with an epoxy and sand finish, so there is no need for extra prep.

The Westcoat Process

Westcoat ALX-PRO is a waterproof walking deck system. This bonded system is reinforced with metal lath, a fiber lath reinforced membrane features a series of polymer-modified cementitious applications and is sealed with Westcoat’s SC-10 Acrylic Topcoat. The finished product weighs approximately 2½ lbs per square foot. This system gives plywood the look and feel of concrete with a decorative appeal.

Westcoat’s MACoatTM System is a fiber lath-reinforced deck system installed with a series of two or three separate waterproof acrylic applications, and sealed with Westcoat SC-10 Acrylic Topcoat. The finished product weighs approximately one pound per square foot. MACoat is breathable and allows vapor to pass as opposed to traditional urethane coatings. In many cases, it can be applied over existing deck systems to provide an excellent method for the rehabilitation of problem surfaces.

Westcoat’s ALX and MACoat TM systems are recommended for parking garages, entryways, walkways, balcony decks, and roof decks.
