AMPP CEO Bob Chalker Plans July 2023 Retirement

The Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) announced that CEO Bob Chalker plans to retire in July 2023. Chalker has served in his role for more than 12 years, starting first with NACE International and then as CEO of AMPP through the merger of NACE and SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings in 2021.

In October 2022, the AMPP board of directors will commence a formal search for a successor and consider both internal and external candidates for the position.

“It has been a privilege to serve as CEO of this great organization, and I want to extend my thanks to AMPP’s employees and members who have enabled the association to achieve so much,” Chalker said. “I am honored to have had the opportunity to support such an important industry and so many hard-working people who share sincere passion for the work they do. It is hard to say goodbye, but I leave knowing the association is in the hands of an incredible staff team and the extraordinary and committed AMPP and AMPP Global Center boards of directors.”

As CEO of NACE and now AMPP, Chalker has worked with the boards, member leadership, and AMPP staff to build a culture of excellence, expand the association’s global reach, and develop strategic approaches to supporting and serving industry and member needs.

Cris Conner, Chair of AMPP Global Center

“We are grateful for Bob’s years of steady, thoughtful leadership, and he will be sincerely missed,” said Cris Conner, chair of the AMPP Global Center.

“As a leader and an innovator for our industry, Bob has delivered more in his tenure than we could have envisioned a decade ago,” Conner added. His commitment and tireless dedication to the association is evident in his many achievements and the invaluable legacy he leaves behind.”

Chalker noted that he is proud of the work he has done over the years, and particularly the success that has come from the merger of NACE and SSPC.

Sam Scaturro, Chair of AMPP

“After working with Bob on the SSPC-NACE merger and then through the launch of AMPP I have had the opportunity to see him as a champion for every member of the AMPP community,” said Sam Scaturro, chair of AMPP. “He has set the association on a path to support our members and industry stakeholders worldwide, and he will be leaving the board with a roadmap to ensure the organization continues on that path.”

The AMPP Board of Directors will appoint a search committee to oversee the CEO search process and choose a successor. The target date for a decision is by March2023  to allow the new CEO to meet AMPP members and industry leaders during the AMPP Annual Conference + Expo in Denver, Colorado.

Chalker will remain with the organization through the transition and support the onboarding of the next CEO of AMPP.
