Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine introduces two innovative interior marine decking solutions for government and commercial applications – SeaGuard One-Step Decking System and SeaGuard Decorative Color Flake System. These new solutions are an exciting addition to the Sherwin-Williams marine portfolio, as both are qualified under MIL-PRF-32584 for monolithic deck covering materials for interior shipboard applications, and they also meet IMO 2010 FTP Code Parts 2 and 5 of Annex 1 for commercial applications.
The SeaGuard One-Step System is a seamless, durable, ultra-high-solids, low odor system with a unique quartz-like finish that can be formed into a cove base. It is available in eight stock colors and can be customized for eye-catching logo designs and fleet colors. The system works in wet and dry spaces, and is easily applied onto properly prepared surfaces including steel, aluminum, sealed underlayment and properly cured primers.
The SeaGuard Decorative Color Flake System consists of an ultra-lightweight underlayment with cosmetic polymeric topcoats in a variety of colors and vinyl chip additions. The underlayment is ideal for leveling and smoothing deck irregularities such as weld seams, creating a uniform walking surface. It is approved for use in wet spaces such as heads and showers.
Of special note is the unique SeaGuard Grout Coat, which is intended for easy application as a sealer for porous surfaces and underlayment. This coat is qualified to ANSI A118.10, American National Standard Specifications for Load Bearing, Bonded, Waterproof Membranes for Thin-set Ceramic Tile and Dimension Stone Installation. As a result, there is no need for an additional waterproofing membrane often required by competitive systems. This benefit provides both the owner and contractor savings in schedule, labor and installation costs.
“We are pleased to offer the benefits of this interior decking technology under the time-tested and trusted SeaGuard umbrella,” said Richard Pickering, Sales Director – Marine for Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine. “Of course, customers also benefit from the expertise of the Sherwin-Williams technical service team, who can offer their extensive product knowledge as well as manufacturer equipment training, to ensure proficiency throughout the entire coatings process.”
