Gaco Unveils New Acrylic Elastomeric Roof Coating

Gaco, part of the Holcim Building Envelope portfolio of brands, has officially introduced the GacoFlex A48 acrylic roof coating. Gaco describes itself as an industry leader in the development of innovative roofing systems while offering best-in-class waterproofing and insulation solutions for commercial, industrial, and residential applications.

Pertaining to this coating, the A48 is described as the first and only single-component, high-build acrylic roof coating that can be applied at up to 80 mils (2,032 microns) in a single pass application.

A48’s Technical Benefits

As a fast-curing, acrylic elastomeric roof coating, GacoFlex A48 offers a long roof life, upgraded visual appeal, strong adhesion, high tensile strength, and excellent reflectivity. According to the manufacturer, it provides these qualities while simultaneously being environmentally friendly and reducing landfill usage by avoiding costly tear-offs.

With an enhanced film build and reduced cure times, the coating is designed to help roofing contractors complete jobs faster and with fewer materials.

GacoFlex A48 can be applied as a roof maintenance coating over many existing roof substrates, including single-ply, metal, sprayed-in-place polyurethane foam, and asphalt membranes. It provides early rain resistance in as little as 30 minutes, with complete cure-through in about eight hours.

In addition to its easy application, the coating can be sprayed from a standard acrylic spray system and does not require more expensive plural component equipment.

Sustainable and Innovative

“For over 60 years, Gaco has provided innovative, market-leading products that help contractors succeed and make their businesses more efficient,” said Carl De Leon, senior vice president of technology for Holcim Building Envelope. “A48 leverages the latest developments in roof coating technology, resulting in a sustainable product that streamlines the application process.”

According to the manufacturer, the coating upholds Holcim’s commitment to developing the highest quality products and sustainable, innovative solutions that stand the test of time and the elements.

The water-based solution is zinc-free and contains zero VOCs (volatile organic compounds), making it an environmentally friendly option with no geographic restrictions. The coating will launch in white, with gray and tan options coming later in 2023.
