Mips, a global leader in helmet-based safety, and Husqvarna, one of the world's leading manufacturers of innovative forest, lawn and garden products, announced their official partnership to amplify helmet safety for the forestry industry.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, forestry is among the industries with the highest fatality rate of all occupations. Of the common accidents that workers experience, struck by incidents can cause a range of injuries, from cuts and bruises to traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) and fatalities.
Proper PPE usage, and head protection in particular, is critical to keep forestry workers safe. Most helmets available today are designed to protect workers from linear impacts, or those directly to the crown of the head. Yet the majority of accidents occur at an angle, therefore exposing the wearer’s head to rotational motion – a leading cause of TBIs.
Together, the two Swedish-based organizations Mips and Husqvarna will launch a forestry helmet equipped with the Mips® safety system later this year. This will be the first Husqvarna safety helmet with Mips technology and also the first helmet with the Mips safety system in the forestry industry globally.
“Husqvarna is an industry leader in developing solutions for the field of forestry,” says Max Strandwitz, CEO at Mips. “We are thrilled to partner with them to bring our safety technology to the forestry industry, and to expand to this industry as we continue true to our mission; to lead the world to safer helmets.”
“We are delighted to announce our partnership with Mips, pioneers in head protection technology. By incorporating Mips’ advanced safety systems into our helmets, we aim to enhance the level of safety for Husqvarna users worldwide, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to setting high standards of safety in the industry”, says Carl-Magnus Lunner, Product Manager Head PPE & climbing equipment at Husqvarna.
