Salem, N.H.-based Advanced Polymerics, Inc. (API), a global innovation company that develops and commercializes smart coatings, announced the launch of Permacorr as its newest industrial coating.
According to the company, Permacorr can reduce total job costs by up to 40% relative to a traditional epoxy coating. It is made with food-grade ingredients while offering unparalleled environmental and safety benefits, the company explains.
Field Testing Results
Field tested on tanks at a major oil and gas producer in Texas, as well as on seaside railings and racks at government sites in North Carolina and the Marshall Islands, the water-based product prevents corrosion and self-heals in the event it is scratched or dinged.
In turn, this eliminates the chance of rusting and leaks, according to the company.
“We developed Permacorr to meet our customer’s business and environmental needs,” said Stephen Jewitt, president of API, Inc. “We were particularly sensitive to helping our customers reduce costs and providing them with a unique coating that not only exceeds the quality of traditional epoxy coatings, but also offers safety and eco-friendly benefits that no other industrial coating can guarantee.”
Application Options
Permacorr, which is patented in the United States, Europe, and China, emits 40% less carbon dioxide (CO2) over its lifecycle when compared to its epoxy counterparts.
According to the manufacturer, it can be used on the exterior of new carbon steel or existing steel as a maintenance coating. The product can be applied even if there is flash rust and just one coat is required, which allows users to save on labor and asset downtime.
“Other coatings require containment and can only be applied in favorable weather conditions,” Jewitt said. “Permacorr can be applied even if it’s humid and takes just five minutes to dry. It can even tolerate rain droplets soon after application.”
Recommended Uses
API offers approved topcoats that come in a variety of colors, which allows users to paint their tanks and other steel assets to meet corporate branding and/or local regulation standards.
The product’s recommended uses include oil, gas, chemical, and life sciences tanks and pipes, as well as hydro-electric generation equipment and turbine and cooling towers at traditional and alternate fueled generating plants.
